Abstract
In 1970, a series of circumstances arose in Santander that made a sport such as rugby begin to be practiced. The first and fundamental was the inauguration in October 1969 of the Municipal Sports Complex. The others were the coincidence of people linked to the city and the region with im-portant political positions who decided to promote sport among the youth of the place, which began to have a university environment dependent on Valladolid, plus the incipient sport school in the form of School Games, which were possible thanks to the will of teachers with concern in schools, colleges and high schools.
