Abstract

This text approaches the logics of power within the city by using metaphors originated in the fields of biology and neurology. Thus, the logics of power as domination (potestas in the urban space) will be identified with reptilian and brain cortical components. At the same time, the relational logics of power (potential of the urban) will be linked with the limbic components of the mammalian brain; a mammalian brain that establishes cooperative relations and empathy with members of its own species. This latter logic corresponds to the Habermasian approach on the world view (Weltanschauung). On the contrary, the previous two logics become specific in the colonization of this world view by the political system (reptilian power) and the economic system (cortical logic of money).
