Abstract

The present article discusses the New Education Movement pedagogical ideas influence in Chile during the dictatorship of Carlos Ibañez del Campo (1927-1931), a period which saw the opening of several experimental schools (1929-1931). Over a dozen photographs, alongside journalistic and internal records from the archive at the Experimental School for Girls in Santiago are examined. Three dimensions of schooling are brought to focus: 1. Outline of the learning environment; 2. Student involvement; 3. Approaches to learning.
