Abstract

Between 1875 and 1931 a series of administrative regulations were issued in Spain whose combined aim was to protect the health and the physical and moral wellfare of poor children, so much in working field, where they could access since 10 years, as in family or social ones; a lot of these regulations resulted in organizations and activities of school support, as it was in school where teachers observed severe handicaps in pupils that affected their attendance and improvement.

Many of these organizations and activities, generically referred to as “complementary school institutions”, had in physical education and physical exercise their prior, when not sole, developing ways.
