Since the 1960-1970s “feminist art” has considered political issues attached to that artistic category: making women artists more visible; highlighting and questioning (distorting) the patriarchal discourses in the artistic theories and practices; using the artistic practice in the search for trans-gender identities.

The validity and irruption of feminist contributions in the artistic field deserves special attention for those who are interested in “gender” as a structural discrimination variable together with class and ethnicity in the field of artistic production.
