Vol. 8 No. 1 (2020): Art and/in/from the university

When we talk about art education at the university level - with a student body whose choice is assumed to be vocational - the specificities of contemporary art practice rub against the confining framework of academia. Despite the adversities, several universities have trained generations in the practice of art, design, conservation, restoration, cultural management and art education for secondary and high school.

Art education, as an area of expertise, is a field differentiated from others by its specific cultural content, in relation to artistic practices. And like any other field of knowledge, it is susceptible to being dealt with at various levels, both from the perspective of specific knowledge for professional development and at other more general levels that relate it to other fields of knowledge. Some twenty articles gathered under the title "Art and/in/from the University" invite us to reflect, debate, question and analyse this subject.
